Sergeant Major (Retired) James R. Shreve

Sergeant Major (Retired) Shreve currently serves as the Army Instructor for the Nanook Battalion at Nome-Beltz High School JROTC in Nome, AK. He also instructs Physical Education classes and an elective for 8th grade students on Leadership. Prior to retirement Sergeant Major Shreve served as the Deputy Chief of Staff of Operations (G3), Operations Sergeant Major for Joint Forces Headquarters, Wyoming Army National Guard. In this capacity he was responsible for the coordination of training, events, and resources for over 25 units and 1600 (plus) personnel within the Wyoming Army National Guard.
SGM (R) Shreve was born and raised on a family ranch in the Wolf, WY area. He started his military career 01 October 1991 when he joined the Wyoming Army National Guard. He served in a traditional capacity as a Wire Systems Installer and Signal Section Sergeant for Battery C, 1-49 FA, until March 1995 when he was selected for an Active Guard Reserve (AGR) position. As an AGR he has held various positions around the State of Wyoming, culminating in his selection to serve as the Deputy Chief of Staff Operations - Operations Sergeant Major on 27 March 2012. His wife is a sixth grade teacher at Nome Elementary School, they have three adult children (one of them is a Nome-Beltz graduate) as well as one granddaughter and another grandchild on the way!
